Education & Experience
Education:
I've been practicing counseling since 2013. I received my Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology from Kennesaw State University, my Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Community Counseling from the University of West Georgia, and my Master of Biblical and Theological Studies (MBTS) from Dallas Theological Seminary.
Expertise:
Like most therapists, I help individuals with depression, anxiety, ADHD, BPD, OCD, etc. However, I specialize in complex trauma (C-PTSD). I work a lot with client who have experienced relational traumas, particularly family system trauma, betrayal trauma, and narcissistic abuse. Other areas of concentration include: sexual identity, embracing our God-given masculinity/femininity, boundaries/communication, and both substance and behavioral addictions.
Experience:
God has blessed me with diverse work environments, since entering the counseling field. Right after graduation, I worked with individuals who were previously incarcerated for sexual offenses. As part of their probation/parole stipulations, they were required to complete a "sexually harmful behavior intervention program.”
I’ve worked at a mental health hospital providing individual and group therapy in both inpatient and outpatient programs. I’ve always gravitated towards those with substance use disorders. I’ve run a substance abuse program (ASAM I) at my local community service board. As the Treatment Director and Provider, I helped launch two accountability courts (both drug and mental health).
I assumed that I would return to school to get my doctorate in psychology. However, God shifted my course when He directed me to attend seminary. This was one of the best decisions I ever made. I then worked at a Christian, non-profit organization integrating Jesus' friendship with the science and art of counseling.
Seminary really helped click things into place and helped me discover/create my more authentic therapeutic voice. Since I love learning, I also love teaching. I taught a few semesters at my church’s “School of Ministry,” with courses on “God’s Grand Narrative” and “Gospels Overview.”
